Book Formatting

There are a number of things to think about when formatting your book, and it's important to understand how each one will affect your layout. Here are some examples (and this is by no means a complete list):

1. Gutters and margins - these are the spaces between the text and the end of the page. The goal is to ensure your text is readable, and doesn't bleed to the end of the page. It's especially important to ensure the gutters are big enough that the text isn't lost in the binding between the pages. This is a common error with pre-formatted samples provided by a lot of self-publishers.

2. Page numbers, titles, etc. - Proper formatting will eliminate page numbers on the title page and the copyright page, and any more pages between the front of the book and the first chapter. This is an especially difficult process to undertake, but a very important one. Books with incorrect page numbering formats are quickly thrown out by reviewers and are seen as "unprofessional."

3. Typesetting - What kind of font fits your story? Too many different fonts is a classic red flag for reviewers and book stores. Too many fonts mean the author is unprofessional and sloppy. There are specific fonts to follow, including sizing for each font and line spacing.

And these are just a few important aspects of book formatting! Once you're ready to format your story into a specific book size, I can help you format it.

My fee for book formatting is $250. Please contact me with relevant information about your book for more details.
